Call your bank - just in case. You never know what these people will do!! You are correct- demand written notification of the debt MAILED to you (not email, fax or phone calls). They have 5 days to comply.
I called AT&T and reported him..They said there is noting they can do.Altho I directed them to this site and they read the complaints against him.(Sorry about previous typo)
I got a call from this number but i don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize. Not to mention, I don't owe any outstanding debts. It sounds as if this person is seriously breaking the law. What he's doing is a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and if he calls any of you again and makes similar illegal threats, you need to threaten him back. Remind him he can be fined $1000 for each instance he breaks the law like that. Also, if you tell him not to call you again, he must abide by your demands. Any future calls will then be a federal crime.
Don't put up with these guys, ok? Fight back. Get tough with them. Contact his clients and threaten to sue them over his behavior, since he was hired by them after all. Also, document EVERYTHING. Record your conversations with him if you can. Catch him in the act of committing these crimes and when you have what you need, take him to court.
i RECEIVED A CALL AT HOME BY A CHASE jOHNSON SAYING HE REPRESENTS ADVANCE AMERICA ON A CHECK BACK FROM 2008 FOR $500 BUT NOW INTEREST AND FEES are over $2000, and he wanted me to pay him over the phone, or he was gonna have a warrant issued out on me for the debt. I called the states attorney and he said they cannot issue any warrants. They are just a debt collector that buys bad debts, and then they don't even give the money to the original people owed!!! they keep it. so do not pay these people.
