Call your bank - just in case. You never know what these people will do!! You are correct- demand written notification of the debt MAILED to you (not email, fax or phone calls). They have 5 days to comply.
I had a guy call me wish I had known this prior I had a t Mobil bill the needed paid and sure enough I really did and he scared the crap out of me said I was getti g charged put on me unless I have account number and he agreed to payment arrangements of 200 a month he took out just that every month for 4 months and I stopped pmt it should have well been paid in full an more then when stopped I started getting calls again and not only from him from t Mobil saying I owe 795 and they have no idea who I have he money to. Needless to say I never got te my money back the bank says tuff! Ain't that a [***]!
Received a call on my cell phone today. Woman stated she was with Select Resource Group, and that I owed money on a payday loan from three years ago. I told her I'd spoken to someone previously and had requested written verification. She said let me check on that, and then transferred me to someone else. I then told the second woman twice that I need written verification. She talked very fast, interrupting me, and said "well I have the routing number of the bank account you used" and then asked me if I realized that this was just three years ago and is still under the statute of limitations, at which point I interrupted her and told her to just do whatever she needed to do but I wasn't going to discuss it further, and I hung up.
