Got a call from this number today, and since I am not interested in Credit Services did not answer and they, of course, didn't leave a message. Am also on the No Call List, apparently it doesn't mean anything to these people.
i just got a call from credit services and i just picked up the phone long enough to say "go die". then i goggle the number and thanks to the comments i'm saved.
Yes folks, this is a SCAM to steal your credit card data. The reason they don't honor the do not call list is because they are criminals. Worse yet, there are plenty of low-cost services that allow you to dial out using fake call id. You go to a website offering call spoofing, pay your fee, type in the name and number you want to appear on the recipient's telephone and you're done. A bill was introduced in congress almost 10 years ago to block these services. Special interests prevented that from happening.
The best advice is to actually press 1 when prompted to "lower your rates". Play along.
SCAMMER: "Would you like to lower your credit card rates across the board to 6%?"
YOU: "Yes, that sounds great! What do I need to do?"
SCAMMER: "Well all I need is your credit card information and we'll take care of it on this end. There is nothing more you need to do, and it can apply to multiple cards and accounts, as long as you provide those account numbers too."
YOU: "Awesome. I have 4 cards I'd like to take advantage of. Can you wait a minute while I go get them?"
SCAMMER: "Sure".
You're done at this point. Leave the phone off the hook, and don't come back. These clowns will wait you out at least five minutes if you've done a good job. The dumber you sound, the better. Time to con the conmen.
