A recording saying it was urgent that I call this number to get a lower interest rate on my credit card. As directed, I pushed "9" to speak with a live operator. After many rings, another recording stated that Susan's mail box was full and could not accept any calls at this time. I hung up.
If I had reached a live operator, I would have asked to be removed from their calling list.
pushed 9 and was asked if I was responding to the interest rates. Told him I was on the Do Not Call registry and got "Really?" and then he hung up. I want to know how we can prosecute these people.
This isn't the first time this has happened. Last year I went through at least 50 calls before they stopped trying. At that time it was all zeros on the caller id. Called the attorney general. They said I needed the actual # to prosecute. Called the phone company. They said they couldn't release MY phone records to ME without a court order. Called the attorney general again. Can't get a court order unless you get a police report. What a stupid mess. And these people keep calling and calling.
I just got the phone call. Caller ID readout: 4070003131. That looked weird to me so I didn't answer the call. Later, I checked for a message: hang-up.
Well, only a few minutes after the first call, the phone rang again. I checked the Caller ID readout: Blocked Call. Of course I did not answer the phone. Does this caller/person think I am stupid or what?! Do this caller/person even think?!!! I'm on the Do Not Call list, but that doesn't seem to matter. I could try to do whatever is possible to stop the calls or even the caller, but I like that ole' saying: Mind over matter. In other words, when dealing with such a caller/person, I tell myself, "They have no mind, so what does it matter?"
I got this call and got a similar response. My sister-in-law works at <a big phone company> fraud group and says this is one of a several that they are dealing with and have responded with court-ordered records. She couldn't say anything but I assume that once these jerks are identified, they let violations rack up so they can hit them harder when they go after them.
She also told me that phone companies have to say what they do for privacy reasons but that it's still worthwhile to call and report these calls anyway. There's the law and there's common sense that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. She said to call my phone company harassment line and insist that they take the number, regardless if I have involved law enforcement. So that's what I did :)
