Why would you send them cancelled checks?
Now they have your bank account information!

These people continuously call my cell phone after I told them to not ever call me again. I don't even know how they got my number as I never give it out!

I told them to send me a bill by mail, then they wanted my address. I told them if they knew enough to find my cell phone number, they can easily find my address.

They have me confused with another person with the same name who lives in my town. I have this cell phone only for emergencies and the prepaid plan charges me a dollar for the day and 10 cents a minute if I answer the phone when they call. I don't answer the phone anymore unless it is someone I know and want to talk to.

This is total bull.  I have no debt, bad or otherwise.  I don't know how they go my cell, I've had it for 5 years.  Just ignore.  If you do have an old debt don't talk to them or it will reactivate it.

Most likely someone took out a loan and lied on the application.  They gave a random phone number that happens to be yours.  That happened to me.  

Tell the caller "You have the wrong phone number. You have to stop calling."  If they are legitimate they will stop calling.  

Put them in your contacts list.  Assign them the ring tone "no ring".  That won't stop the calls but it will make them easier to ignore.

I don't know what this is about or who these people are. The only account that I have that is past due is with Sallie Mae and they do not have the number that these particular people are calling me at, which is my cellphone. I am very careful who I give that # to because I get enough unwanted calls on my home phone and want to avoid getting them on my cellphone as much as possible. Sounds like a scam to me. I know that I registered my cellphone as well as my home phone on the do not call list.
