Received this e-mail saying owe $955.00 and have 48 hours to pay or be in court....free e-mail account they are using is gmail and I don't think any reputable company would use gmail for collections...can somebody comment so I don't freak....Thank.
Your "social is on hold"? What the FU*K is THAT supposed to mean?! Whenever they say crap that doesn't happen in real life like your "social" being on hold, they're just trying to scam/rob/extort you. Debt collection agencies are not welcome phone calls but I have friends who work as collectors and they would NEVER threaten people in ANY WAY, SHAPE or FORM. It is ILLEGAL to threaten someone. The reason they use your "social" as a threat is because it is something that you value, therefore, they want you to believe it is in danger and therefore, you'll be scared and pay them the money they are pretending you owe them. Folks, do yourselves a favor and NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER apply for a payday loan again!!! This is probably a HUGE crime ring of some sort, you apply for a loan, get denied, they sell the information you gave them or use it themselves, to try to rob you. This is how these "reputable" people are making ends meet in this economy. Unlike you and me, they don't want to work in a LEGAL company 'cuz the BIG MONEY is always in ILLEGAL activities. I hear all the time about how someone merely applied for a payday loan and they've been getting "collection calls" for five years straight from different "companies", NONE of which exist anywhere, saying they owe thousands for a loan they never got! I know times are tough but STAY AWAY FROM PAYDAY LOAN sites! PLEASE! At the very least, these jerks aren't securing their websites properly and people are hacking into them (very easily too) for your info! Not to mention the 900% interest rate on a $200 loan! They take advantage of people all the time, why wouldn't they also sell your info to make MORE money?!? Think about it!
This is a scam however you should forward a copy of the letter to your state Attorney General, as I am doing to same for my clients.
The broken english/misuse of terms should be a dead give away. I have also sent this info to the news media and hope enough people complain so they can be tracked down. If they are getting some payments from the less informed they have to have banking that can be traced somewhere.
Do not pay, do not engage in conversation, but force your AG's office to do their job, which is to protect you.
