Credit call services - this is one of the numbers! I am on the do not call registry. These people call from several numbers and they call all of the time. Have done everything I can to stop it. So far - just today - I have received 7 calls. I can't stand it. How can I get it to stop!
The Do Not Call Registry is a joke. Don't bother. I've had my numbers registered with it since it started and have re-upped every five years like they require and I get at least a dozen telemarketing calls, robo and otherwise, every day. No use changing our numbers because they are just calling random numbers in order.
Just checked my service and turned on Anonymous Call Rejection and Security Screen. I have Qwest/Century Link - see if you have those options on your service. Security Screen intercepts blocked and unidentified calls and makes them enter a number for their call to come through. The system will try to match a name with the number - otherwise it will state security screen and the display and you can just not answer the call.
I have been submitting complaints to the DNC list for each of the calls I get. Eventually these companies will be fined enough that the cost is more than any benefit they get by ignoring the law.
That's because they are "SPOOFING" the number - making it LOOK like (via a computer program) that that is the number they are calling from, when, in fact that is just a 'front' or a FAKE number used to HIDE their REAL number, which COULD even be coming from OVERSEAS from places like INDIA, PAKISTAN, AFRICA, RUSSIA, etc.
"Calling back" is just a WASTE of Time, Energy, and Phone minutes (or long distance charges.)
Best to press 'ignore' or 'block' on cells; pick up/hang up immediately, quietly, without answering to 'confuse' the robodialing computer that is making these calls. If they stop getting a 'result' from dialing your number every time, you will soon see that the number and frequency of these calls diminishes. (It works for me!)
Call came in on Friday May 11 at 4:07 PM. Saw that it said "FLORIDA" on caller ID and knew it was probably SPAM, but let it go to answering machine JUST IN CASE it was one of my sweepstakes calling to tell me I won a million dollars!!! HA! But, it was our 'good friend' "RACHEL" calling to LOWER my interest rate to 6.9% - AGAIN!
This SAME SCAM has used about 30-40 different numbers in the last 4 years; evidence that it is THIEVERY and nothing else.
