Similar story but the the same ruse. He even used local addresses and names he had pulled out of the telephone book that "sound black". It was quite disturbing and like others I was torn between helping someone I thought I had met. But when pressed for details his story began to change and fall apart. Thank God we did not send money.
Same exact story that I got - on the church phone and my cell. I get lots of these and folks angry when I won't give them money, but this guy threatened me. "You don't know where I am, but I know where you are and I can find you." Pretty creepy.
Received a message from Scott Crone concerning a death. He left the message on both of our church's answering machines. He started the story about the two daughters. He told that he and I met in the last month and that I would remember him, and knew his family. I told him that both churches were small churches, and I hadn't had any visitors that meet that description. He then hung up on me.
Today is the second time he called. I received a previous call from him in the last year also, using the story about the car breaking down (he threw a rod after a funeral).
The name that comes up on caller ID is Anne Conley.
Left me a voice mail to call him about a "death". Called him back and he started saying he met me at church a couple of weeks ago but when pressed for information (I had read the other posts before I called) he hung up on me. I called again and only got his voice mail.
This Scott called my church/home phone at 10 pm, March 29. I didn't get to the phone in time and he left a voice mail saying his call concerned a death. I called him back and only got a voiced mail, I left a message and he returned my call. My honest mistake leaving a message! He claimed to live in my community and to have visited my church 2 weeks ago. When I mentioned I didn't recall, he said it was actually about 5 weekds ago and had two little girls who were dressed alike that folks thought were twins but were actually 2 and 3 years of age. Did that ring a bell? I replied no, it didn't, and how could I help him. The line went dead. I called him again and only got a voice mail. Upon finding this site, it seems the call originated in Orlando, FL and was identified on caller id as Anne Conley.
