Got a call from this number shortly after installing the AuctionMate app on my Palm Pre. It is verification to allow the app to access your eBay account so that it can pull in all the data from your watch list, allow you to bid on items, etc. Through the eBay website, it asked me to choose a number to call from the numbers I have listed on my eBay account and when it called it provided me with a pin to allow the app access. This is legit but as the other users said, be wary unless you are expecting a call just incase this number is being spoofed.
I got this call, unlike other people, not at 4:30 am, but at 11 p.m. I saw it said ebay. I ignored it for a bit, and didn't pick up. People here are sayingthey got called multiple times in a small amount of time.. that hasn't jappened to me yet.
eBay uses this number to call you with a PIN number when someone is using your account. In my case I was trying to sell items on a long dormant eBay account so they wanted confirmation that I was the one using the account. Legit Call!
Please read what has been posted by others before ranting!
This IS an E-bay #. If you or someone else in your house signed up for an E-bay service, please press the number requested (1, 2, 9, whatever).
If no one in your house recently signed up for any E-bay service, by all means, hang up without pressing anything. Someone has either mis-typed their number or are trying to fraud E-bay with a fake (i.e. YOUR) phone number.
Because E-bay is attempting to provide good customer service, the call is attempted ASAP after the person who entered your phone number. E-bay will try to call several times if you don't answer or don't press anything, again attempting to provide good customer service to the person who entered your number (by mistake or attempted fraud).
Don't be hatin' E-bay for these calls if you were not expecting E-bay to call. Just hang up. You'll probably get a few more in quick succession, but they will stop if you don't press anything.
I got 4 calls from this number at 5.30 a.m with the same message as everyone, pressed 2 when i called back and it told me to contact ebay using customer support on the web site. I contacted using live customer support and changed my password after they told me there was no evidence of them ringing me. Customer support did verify that the number is Ebay main corporation number tho
