I got a call today at 315 pm. He gave the name Sean Michael, stated his father had told him to call me and give me our paint estimate. When I told him we didn't request for any estimate he got very rude. Even said that non of my words made any since to him and that he had expected me to use a higher vocabulary. I then asked what was he wanting again and he hung up on me. This is the 4th time this caller has called and he keeps asking for my father I fear they are targeting the elderly.
Same old con artist Design Modeling Group. They keep calling every week with a different number. No business license. Just a bunch of illegal scammers. You can block everyone with 555 as a prefix because that is not a valid prefix.
Received calls about 9:15 AM on 12/8/15 on my home phone AND on my cel phone from this number. The caller said he was calling from "Home Remodeling Group" - this was a lie - there is no company by that name in the CA Contractor's State License Board database and all similar names have cancelled or expired licenses. He said his "brother tony" had spoken with me about a kitchen remodel I did earlier this year - this was also a lie - I don't recall ever speaking with someone named Tony about remodeling and I did not remodel my kitchen this year. I told him this, but he continued anyway and was very persistent. He told me they were doing some roofing work on my street - another lie - there's no work happening on my street at all and there hasn't been for a very long time. After a few more questions about whether I was planning to do some remodeling (all of which I answered "no"), ha ended the call abruptly.
This is a scam, plain and simple. They're trying to make you think that the "do not call" list doesn't apply, by implying you've already spoken to them before, or that they're working on your neighbor's house. Don't be fooled: never give these callers any information, and block the number(s) if you can. ALWAYS check the licensing board in your state before hiring a contractor. If you get a call from these people, ask for their contractor's license number (I'm confident they won't have a valid one) and make them wait on the phone while you look it up. In all likelihood, they will hang up - and probably not call you again (they're looking for easy targets, not knowledgeable, empowered citizens).
