I received a voicemail from a guy with a thick accent "this is Sheriff....James..from the Spokane County Sheriff's office. We have received a complaint against your name and three serious allegations against your social security number so we would like you or your retained attorney of choice to give us a call back" almost believable except that the area code is 409 instead of 509 but somehow the rest of the number matches the local sheriff's office number. I am so sick of these phone calls!
Received a message to call number, called number and they stated they were a federal branch and that if I didn't pay restitution for Internet fraud then they would send authorities to my house to arrest me. Seemed extremely sketchy. Told them send the cops then because I'm not paying them over the phone! Not a single person had a recognizable accent!
One of my family members got a call from someone with an accent stating his name is Officer Black with the Federal Trade Commission. They are looking to speak with (he used my middle name). He was told I was not home, and he then stated I'd better give him a call back regarding a business matter or he would be sending the police to my house. My family member called me at work and told me about the phone call and gave me the number to call back. First of all, the idiot called me using my middle name - not my first name. No professional organization would do that. He then asked me to give the name of the Officer who initially contacted me. I refused to give any name and told him he called me and should remember the officer's name!! He also asked me my last name and I told him again, you are calling me and you should know my last name. He then said may I place you on hold? I said you absolutely can. I'm looking forward to finishing this conversation when you come back to the phone. Needless to say, he disconnected the call :-) (LOL) ** scammers are losers **
Good for you! They tried me too. They used my middle name and not my first name ... I don't do any type of legal business using my middle name. Read my post below yours.
I just received this call a Mr Black with the Federal Trade Commission I really thought It was fake until they then called me using my local sheriff's office number. But that got me scared but again with the awful accent. She then said her name and I called back asking For that deputy sheriff and there is no one by that name. He wanted me to pay 700 over the Phone, I just Hate the fact he knew my social security number. Now that is going to keep me worried.
