Obviously they have been making calls for years. One of their current names is "AMVETS CDSI" that is the name of a multi-branched, twisted group of supposed charities claiming to help Vets. The calls are to solicit donations of clothes, etc. to be sold at their thrift store.
They used to use women calling from their home phones. Looks like they have moved up to full illegal telemarketers (calling for a charity does not exempt you from the DNC list).
Other names they use:
Maryland
Maryland Central Donations
Amvets
Central Donation Services Inc
Central Donations Services
Central Donations
CTRL Donations
Central Donation
A message was left on my phone this morning at 11:15 AM which was garbled. There was a lot of background noise, and a male voice said "American" something and hung up. I called the number at 6:30 PM and a lady answered "American Donations". She said the call was to see if I had any clothes or other items I'd like to donate. I am on the "Do Not Call" registry.
Received 4 phone calls from 410-327-5900, they don't say anything they just hang up on you. Called the # back, lady answered "Central Donations" told her don't call my house. By putting your name on the Do Not Call Registry means absolutely nothing and reporting the numbers does nothing at all. I've received numbers, reported them, and the same numbers continue to call my house.
30. Are calls from political organizations or calls soliciting for charities covered?
Political solicitations are not covered by the TSR at all, since they are not included in its definition of “telemarketing.” Charities are not covered by the requirements of the national registry. However, if a third-party telemarketer is calling on behalf of a charity, a consumer may ask not to receive any more calls from, or on behalf of, that specific charity. If a third-party telemarketer calls again on behalf of that charity, the telemarketer may be subject to a fine of up to $11,000.
