The caller ID says Laurel MD but this area code does not come back to Laurel. The guy says he is with "Department of Crime and Prevention". When asked what law enforcement agency he is with he said Maryland County and then said Maryland state. He has an accent and says he has legal authority to leave a message for one of our employees. When pressed, he backtracks and changes his story. He said he was an Investigator and then said he was on Officer. Sounded like a bill collector!!
I got a call from this number today Officer Dupont he said was his name. He sent me a from through email that looked legit so I agreed to pay the $552.67 but my kid told me not to you yet cause he thought it was a scam. Now i dont know what to do I dont want to be scammed but i dont want to be sued either. Any advice on this matter?
This is a scam! He says his name is Officer Gary Dupont. He left me a message at work saying it was an emergency. I called back. He was vague and did not want to give me information, just said there was a lawsuit against me. I kept pressing for information (company name, how much?, where he was located). He answered none of these questions and hung up on me.
It's a scam. Same number called my employer. Also changed his name up and used different numbers. Same thick accent though. It's been a humiliating experience and I have had to get security and the police involved.
