I got a very threatening phone call AT WORK telling me that they were going to call my CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS LAWYER.  Unreal.  I cannot believe the audacity.  This has SCAM written ALL OVER IT.  DO NOT ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE THREATENED BY THIS CALLER "BILL ANDERSON".  I asked for the FULL address of the "Department of Crime & Prevention"  Here's what I received:

300 East Joppa Road
Suite 1105 (NOTE:  He could not pronounce OR SPELL SUITE. He said "suet"  and spelled S-U-E-T)
Baltimore, MD  21286-23016

NOTE:  The below is the actual address they are using, HOWEVER, NOTE THE number they are calling from... NONE OF THE INDIVIDUALS in this Government Agency have 888 in their dialing pattern, NOR do they use any last four digits of 7569 - all these phone numbers have an 821-2XXX format.

Governor's Office of Crime Control & Prevention
300 E. Joppa Road, Suite 1105
Baltimore, MD 21286-3016

E-mail (general): [email protected]
Telephone Numbers:
Main Line: 410-821-2828
Toll Free: 1-877-687-9004
TTY users (MD Relay): 1-800-735-2258

Fax Number: 410-321-3116

If you are THAT frightened (and trust me, hands are shaking), then CALL the TRUE numbers listed above and ASK to speak to someone to verify the VALIDITY of the call you received.

Unfortunately, at sompe point or another, we have all taken out a Payday Loan - that is the TRUE reason that this call even originated.  Those online payday loan companies do NOT secure your information.  Enough PERSONAL information is "out there"  The last 4 digits of your SSN, your Name, WORK, HOME and to some extent even your BANK ACCOUNT number.

Whatever you do, do NOT fall prey to this.  This is scam.  I was HUNG UP ON FIVE times!  I told him I recording the call, and then was "disconnected".  I told him that this was a scam... "disconnected"  I told him that this is all over the internet "disconnected".  TELL THEM YOU KNOW IT IS A FRAUDULENT ATTEMPT TO COLLECT A DEBT THAT THEY CANNOT PROVIDE YOU ANY INFORMATION ON!!    THEN!  REPORT this to your STATE's Attorney General's Office - they will have a file started I'm sure...

DO NOT CONFIRM ANY INFORMATION, NOR DISCLOSE ANY INFORMATION. He threw out the "Head Legal Counsel" of the company I work for.  That man does not work for this company...

BE FIRM!  BE STRONG!  TELL THEM YOU KNOW IT IS A SCAM, AND PUSH HARD... I CALLED MULTIPLE TIMES TO LET THEM KNOW... I can assure you, I WILL NOT be receiving another phone call from this number again.  Once you push back HARD enough, they realize that they are not dealing with somone who is easily frightened or intimidated... and that is what they do....

Voicemail received on work extension.  Claimed to be “Officer Bill Anderson” with the “Crime & Prevention Department” and that I had to urgently call to discuss an important matter.  Called the number and was not given any information.  Due to the nature of the voicemail, I immediately pegged the call as a “phishing/scam” call.  When questioned, in depth, the caller would suddenly “disconnect”.  Advised caller I knew of the scam and asked for the complete address of “agency”.  When providing address, caller could not pronounce, or spell “Suite”.  Pronounced Suite as “Suet” and spelled S-U-E-T.  I personally became very aggressive with caller, advising that I was completely aware of the scam intention and that he was to cease/desist all calls to the number.
April 10, 2013 – beginning at 11:25am 5 calls passed through to extension.  Operators were advised to pickup and disconnect.  Director of Security, was involved,  and personally fielded at least 3 calls in the PBX central location.  Caller would not speak, and hang up.  Calls eventually ceased. Steps taken to block number from ability to call the work location.

Called the Maryland Governor’s Office of Crime Control & Prevention.  Spoke to a representative of the Agency directly.   Advised her that the number I was being called from was using the physical address of their offices as the “front” for the scam.  She took all information (my name, number, caller details, etc.).  She advised to involve the local police if the calls continue to occur.  Interim:  Several calls made from “spam” identified number and “blocked” numbers to cell phone.  Answered 2 of the calls and told the person they had wrong number (sounded very close to the voice of “Officer Bill Anderson”).

Karen, it would be best to post the mailing address to your office.
Letters carry more legal weight than emails or phone calls in gathering evidence.
