"Government" already has a clue. We have the FTC and the DoJ and attorneys general all willing to frustrate fraud calls. Finding and punishing the crooks is not a magical or quick process, nor can it be while technology outpaces the law. But if you're not happy with the progress of existing regulators, find your callers and sue them yourself.
You might also bear in mind that your olde tyme phone carriers continue to whine that they can't offer you rule-based blocking tools like VOIP services have, in spite of the FCC and FTC debunking industry claims that common carrier rules prevent this.
Called my cell at 8:30 am. I am waiting for an important call, so immediately answered without hesitation or considering the CID. Very "American" sounding recording....HEATHER from account services. I usually hang up there, but I was angry. I pressed 1 to talk to a human and surprise, surprise (not!)...voice was very heavily accented non-American male. I yelled "do you know it's 8:30 am during summer break?" He replied "yes, it's 8:30, not 5:30 or 6:30!" As if that made it alright. I replied "It's summer break, you fool, and the kids are off school and still sleeping". Then I hung up and blocked the number. Some days it's just way more frustrating than others!
Read my post below and you'll see they don't care about time of day either. Criminals are not polite and they certainly don't respect the DNC list. All we can do is keep blocking the numbers one at a time, endlessly, until the government gets a clue how to stop them.
About 1:45 this afternoon I received a call from this number and a recorded message stated the caller, a woman, was with Account Services and wanted to remind me about my account and that I needed to hurry about getting it checked. I clicked 1 to get as much info as I could and ask a male who said name was Jeff or Joe and upon prodding gave his last name as Brown. I asked him where he was located and he said: "Why do you need to know that?" I told him that I needed to know it and he hung up.
