Just received a call from on call display *Visa Department* phone number 1-414-742-3949.
The man had an Indian accent and started by saying this is the Visa department and wanted to know if we put a $600.00 charge on our visa. First of all what visa? I told him I did not believe him and that it was a scam. My husband on the other phone had something else to say before we hung up!
At 4:25 am on May 4, 2016, my phone rang. It was a long distance ring and I panicked because my parents live in Ontario. The man (with an Indian accent) asked me if this was Lisa and I said yes. I asked him right away if he knew what time it was and he then said that he calling about my Visa. I then told him that he is not to call my number again and he then said that he can call anytime day or night. I told him not to ever call at this time and my number again and I hung up. I was extremely livid!!!!!! He disrupted my sleep
Same deal asked if I spent $600 on visa. When I said I don't have a visa he said mastercard BMO then said you don't have a PC mastercard. I told him I had a duct cleaning mastetcard. Line went dead.
DAMNED SCAMMERS! I can see how someone would deem this as legitimate! I was the victim of ID theft a few months back, and when I got this call, I could honestly SEE how people could fall for it. Problem is... I don't HAVE a visa... So for the $600 charge he was talking about.... makes no difference to me because I don't own a visa! It's sad in this day & age that people have to resort to this crap instead of getting a job & working for a living like the rest of the hard working people they are trying to scam...
called from 414-742-3949, claimed to be calling from Texas
For me, it was 5am, 'Did I do a $600 Western Union wire transfer to India from my Visa card?'. Maybe because I actually do have a Visa card, and it was 5am, I got sucked in much deeper than I should have. The guy was very slick, playing off bits of info I (stupidly) gave him. Had an answer for everything I threw at him. Crafted an elaborate story about how Western Union was giving us 1 hour to sort this out, how it was worse than he thought, my online banking was compromised, tracked to two IP addresses within my home branch ... 9th case of insider 'money laundering' in TD he had dealt with in 15 days. Wanting to catch the insider 'red handed' meant we had to act fast, I couldn't contact TD or it would give us away. It got even weirder than that.
