Just received a call from on call display *Visa Department* phone number 1-414-742-3949.
The man had an Indian accent and started by saying this is the Visa department and wanted to know if we put a $600.00 charge on our visa. First of all what visa? I told him I did not believe him and that it was a scam. My husband on the other phone had something else to say before we hung up!
The same story for me. It was early in the morning, I was not fully awake and the same thing happened as described above. The guy was smooth and had a good quick answer for everything. Thankfully I clued in before I compromised my computer as well. You think this will not happen to you because you are much too smart and aware of these schemes. I felt like an idiot but what a valuable lesson learned.
Sam Watson - Indian accent - sounds like the same name and voice a few years back with the Microsoft "your computer is compromised" - same thing this morning with the $600 - told him to #$$&*(^* off, Should not be considered part of the human race
Just received a call from this individual same scam....same Indian guy.....same [***].....as reported above. I hung up....really this fellow should be locked up......
Same thing...early 7:10 this morning. .600 wired to India. When he asked for my cc #..I said "I don't think I should be giving that over the phone" and he hung up. I reported it to Visa
I have call display and looked at the number -- 414-742-3949 -- with some bewilderment and then great annoyance. I was so annoyed I answered it.
"What do you want?" I growled into the phone.
"Mrs. ...?"
[No reply.]
A male voice with a very strong E Indian accent goes on to tell me that they are doing a routine check to see if I had charged $600.oo to my VISA account.
I think I interrupted him loudly with something like "OH! Gimme a break!" and a profound hangup.
One site said the call originated from Elkhorn Minn. But methinks that's just a transfer hub and the call originates from much further away. Maybe INDIA, at a guess. Sounds very similar to the "MicroSoft" guy who called to "fix" my nonexistent computer. I strung the MS guy along for a bit but I was just NOT in the mood for this nonsense this morning. I hadn't even had my COFFEE!
