Because call came from my same area code, I deviated from my usual policy and answered the call. Readout on caller said "unknown name". A Rebecca who said she was from some breast cancer group was allegedly soliciting donations for a breast cancer organization. Call was made at 8:10AM!!! I asked if she was aware the call came in before legal calling hours and hung up on her.
Didn't answer, let the machine grab it as I didn't recognize the number (even though the number is the same area code as mine). Someone asked for my wife as the outgoing greeting for the machine started, then hung up when they realized it was the answering machine. Comes up on the caller ID as BC FIN ASSIST. Looking at Janet's comment, I now know what the 'BC' stands for. Not the first time I've seen this on my caller ID either.
Didn't answer and called them back. The message announces "Breast Cancer Financial Fund" and offers the option to press "1" to be removed from the list (in 30 days.)
I notice there is no mention of non-profit in the message. I wonder if any individual can just buy a phone line and solicit funds under any name...
