This guy contacted me stating that he was from the iRS and was calling me about this collcollection for 5000.00 that I supposedly have. Which doesn't exist. Immediately I knew it was a fraud and I hung up.
•If you owe federal taxes, or think you might owe taxes, hang up and call the IRS at 800-829-1040. IRS workers can help you with your payment questions.
•If you don’t owe taxes, call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 800-366-4484.
•You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at FTC.gov. Add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments in your complaint.
BEWARE!! Totally Bogus "Collection Agency" that may advise that you owe a "long past due" debt to Chase, Sprint, XYZ, etc. They'll settle right now, for less if you just hurry up and send them the $ TODAY!! Reported to FTC, Federal,State & LOCAL LE & IRS.
Albizee, It's a SCAM. Beware! Same thing happened to me,,,except I checked my credit report and there was nothing on there! They had my name, phone, address& other info, too , so it sounds very legit until you check it out! Wanted payment "right NOW!!" Reported them to IRS, FTC Fraud Unit and Local, State, Fed Law Enforcement.
Check with Chase or get your credit report(free) if you want to be sure...If they had your last 4 SSN #, best to advise the 3 legit credit bureaus to put a "credit freeze" on your account.
