Same garbage...called my cell claiming to be the IRS. Didn't sound legit do I hung up and called back...straight to voicemail, with no indication whose voicemail it was. Called them again and person who answered immediately asked for a credit card number without even asking for my name...WOW!!! Report this # to the authorities.
It's fake because .....The first contact I.R.S. makes with a taxpayer is always in writing. You would receive multiple letters or notices, and probably at least one by certified mail, before you would get a telephone call. The first call from I.R.S. is usually a return call to you because you have responded to their correspondence. I received 3 of these fake computer generated voice mails posing as I.R.S. "Officer" Julie Smith. (LOL) I worked with I.R.S. Agents thru my job as a Qualified Retirement Plan Specialist for years and I never heard them call themselves "Officers" either. If they were to call a taxpayer it would definitely NOT be a computer voice message. The revenue agent would leave their name and number and when you called back you could verify that it was in fact the I.R.S. I doubt they would say "Take care" at the end of their message either. (what a polite thief!) I did call back just to see what they would say. I got voice mail & did not leave a message. I do not transmit my telephone number so it comes up as "Restricted" when I call someone and since it is not a toll free number they cannot "capture" your number or collect data on who is calling them. You can use call blocking (*60) to block that # so they cannot call you again. Here in PA it costs $4.50 per month to activate call blocking. You can block 10 #'s @ a time and deactivate it at any time only paying for a month @ a time. Good Luck and pass info along!
