My husband received this message today and he hung up, I checked it and found out it is a scam. How can we stop this foolishness.....many seniors will fall for it???? PS: We are seniors.
Received a call from this number. Left a message to return call. The caller ID indicated the phone was located in Navato, CA. Called the number and a lady with a foreign accent said she was calling from IRS located in Washington DC even though call came from Navato, CA. She made all kind of false statements about owing back taxes, wanted my lawyer's name and said that a warrant for my arrest was issued and the local authorities would be coming to my home. When I ask for her to confirm the last four digits of my social security number she said have a nice day and hung up. This is obvious a scam. They did have my name and telephone number. I gave them no information.
They posted an ad on craigslist with this number as their contact info. When I called, the man didn't say IRS but some other official sounding bureau... I thought I dialed the wrong number, but then he tried to keep me on the phone asking "why is this the wrong number..?" Etc. I hung up VERY shortly after that.
