I have had the same problem but the guy said his name was John Marshall, John Martin, Deputy L. Potter, and many other names. He called form (727)245-1959 and from (818)662-7269 and has been harassing me at my job because I had my cell number changed. He keeps saying that I'm going to jail for a week, then 6 weeks, and now 6 months. He even changed his number to my jobs number to try and scare me but the sad part about it is I was at work at the time and we only have one line. At the time of his call I was making a call of my own. He kept saying that charges were against me a case was drawn against me in the state where I live but was on hold unless I pay back $465 or $495. I don't exactly remember the cost but I know that he called my job on Thursday and left some numbers. I know now that it's a scam but i wish the calls would stop before his rude language gets me fired.
This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

This is a scam. They have called me from other numbersthat I have also reported in this forum. The script is exactly the same, and it sounds like they are calling from some sweatshop overseas. This time the person identified himself as Jack (unintelligible) who warns that you or your attorney must return the call and if you don't, then says, "the only thing I can do is wish to you good luck as the situation unfolds upon you." This is better than his previous script that says "God help you" if you don't return the call. Don't worry yourself or bother calling them back. These guys resurface every couple of months with a new phone number.
My daughter received a call from this man with a VERY thick Indian accent. Stated that she needed to call back that the issue at hand was extremely dangerous...KINDA SCARY ON THE 4TH OF JULY!! If she didn't reply or call back all he could do was wish her good luck and take care. Didn't ask for any money or speak of an attorney. Just soo weird. Hope someone finds out who these ppl are soon and puts a stop to this. We did call the number and got just a beep a couple of times but got and American speaking person that just hung up.
