Received this same call. Indian male with a heavy accent told me to call back and speak to an Alec Jones and gave me a reference number. I knew this didn't seem right but they keep calling. I called back the number and spoke to an Indian woman with a thick heavy accent. She told me that they notified me by certified mail numerous times and that I was going to be arrested for tax fraud. I am an intelligent person and tried to squeeze info out of her. She read off an alleged affidavit which didn't specify anything. I asked her to provide me with other info on me to see if she had the right person. She gave me my name and full mailing address but nothing else. She told me the errors were for 4 consecutive years and said that I didn't report my income correctly. I told her it was impossible and that I file jointly with my wife. I asked her why aren't you going after my wife as well and she said the problem is only with my taxes. This confirmed that this is a scam. If I am filing a joint return and there were issues, both my wife and I would be accountable I something wasn't reported or falsely reported. I told the woman that this is impossible and that is not how the IRS operates. She then said they will mail everything to me and hung up the phone. Whatever you do, do not give out your social security number to these people when they call.
To all: IRS would necr call to threaten you with jail or arrest. Nothing takes place without an audit, Appeal and a court deciding which as a taxpayer you should have all of such information by mail. I got that same call and the person on the other end was incompetent. When I asked for his Manager's name and number he said he did want to have manager waste time!!!!! Such people should be stopped and no one should respond to them. No IRS EMPLOYEE woul threaten someone with arrest.
Don't give them your personal info , They are SCAM and with heavy INDIAN accent. IRS will not call you ever instead will send you the certified letter. I got call 2 times and did gave this Indian guy a lesson.
