I got 8 calls in 5 minutes at work from 415 484-6151 saying that I was going to be arested in the morning. I ask them not to call me a work and they just continued to call me. Would not tell me who they were or wanted.
This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
ABC News released an investigative report on this scam in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:
I just received a call from 415-484-6151 the gentalman that called me said I had a law suit against me filed in the state of California from the City attornies office of San Fransisco when I asked questions about what for he stated to me he was only a para legal and he could not give me information regading the case filed to call back and speak to the prosecutor. So I called back the number and got a diffent gentalman that stated I was being suid for an unpaid payday loan from cash advance and asked to get the name and number of my attorney. When I stated to him I have not ever received any information about such a law suit and further more I have never had a pay day loan with cash advance he told me I would be served with paperwork at my place of employment and my home to make sure I got it and advised me to seek legal counsel.
I prompty researched cash advance and called them, they stated I have never had a loan with them and that they were not involved in any lawsuit to collect an unpaid loan. I then called the city attorneys office in San Fransisce and they told me they were not involved in any case against me either and advised this was more than likely a scam and to not give them any information of send them any money to settle anything "out of court" he also verified that this number is in no way associated with thier office.

This number keeps calling my home phone and my bosses cell phone threatening me with people who are going to arrest me and saying if I do not return his call he is sorry that the situation will unfold. He claims his name is John Carter. First it was Adam Smith. I knew it was a scam from the first message I recieved now he is messing with my credibility at my job. I really hate scam artists.
