i got call at 7pm. yhey said sf tax colection. i gave my birthdate and my wife full name... then she grabbed phone and hung up... she was pissstt.... i'm not supposed to give that info...my bad.. what can happen, if fraud call?? please anyone know??
I get a lot of calls from telemarketers & scammers. I don't answer calls I don't recognize & my voicemail specifically states this & leaves instructions on how a person can get a hold of me if it were really necessary. This particular number called me twice last week Wed. at 5:17 & 6:33pm, & then again today at 4:16pm. They never leave a message. If it were a legitimate debt collector, they would leave a message identifying themselves, specifying who they are trying to reach, as well as a case/reference number & contact information. Any calls that claim they're trying to collect a debt, yet have no contact information, are most definitely scammers. Judging by the variety of calls people are receiving regarding this number in particular, leads me to believe that they're scammers fishing by trying many different tactics. Debt collectors are consistent & don't claim to be from several different departments. People who try to call this number back are unable to get through, which is a very strong indicator alone that this number is a scammer & should be reported & blocked immediately! Don't get scammed, if you have a debt, it's best to go in person to handle it rather than over the phone with someone who calls you. If you do need to pay a debt or citation over the phone with a debit/credit card, make sure you call the legitimate collections number yourself. Protect yourself from identity theft & don't give out any personal info whatsoever. Even yes/no questions can be used to piece together info to use in ID theft. A little research can go a long way.
