An "Allen Brown" called and told my bride about a supposedly downloaded virus. Claimed he was from Windows and told her that my "computer had expired." The only disconcerting thing is that my laptop did indeed start flaking out on me yesterday. Found a rootkit from Real Networks and deleted it. Now doing full boot scans. Curious timing for such a phone call from what appears to be a legit call center...
The scam team from 415-315-9455 seem to have moved on to this number. An Indian sounding "Mr. Harry Watson" (okay...) tried to convince an elderly lady that her computer was infected or sending out viruses (the computer is mostly OFF). Also claimed to be from LA, yet gave a SF number.
