I got a call today from 415-662-8387 claiming tax fraud, they wanted my lawyers name. I couldn't make out what he was saying. This is a IRS scam. If they call you, ask them for their badge number and let him/her know you will first call the IRS directly to confirm that they are legitimate IRS employees. You'll see it's just another scam. Don't give them any personal information (NO SSN or any personal information

Received a phone 2 phone calls from this number I didn't answer the first time and the voice mail seemed pretty suspicious so I called back and heard a beep then they called me back saying they need my attorney info and I was going to jail. Then he stated I needed to call a Michael Carter now and when I called I was told he was busy and they knew my name already which was really strange they knew all this just by me calling I thought the irs was too busy to know me by name as soon as I called. So I called the irs and the informed me it was a scam.
They're still at it, I got a similar voice mail today and just after I listened to the message, the person called back. I knew immediately from the thick Indian accent in the voice mail that it was a scam. The IRS would never call someone on the phone to discuss a tax matter, let alone hire someone who couldn't speak fluent, understandable English. He asked if I had an attorney and I told him that I was an attorney (which I am). I told the person that I don't discuss personal matters over the phone and that he should send me something in writing. He offered me his "employee tax identification number." I asked him how that was going to confirm that he was, in fact, from the IRS. At that point he got indignant and told me my case was going to court in the morning and hung up. You'd think that the authorities could at least block the phone number that they have apparently using for nearly a month, based upon the earliest post on this website.
I also received a call 11/21/13 from this same number to call back immediately. Then I received another call 11/22/13. I return the call this morning 11/23/13. The Indian person (who I could hardly understand) stated I also owed money and that my tax return fraudulent. I told him I never receive a notice, then I was told to "not say a word" until he was finished reading his affidavit. He told me I would receive my affidavit and would also be arrested Monday morning with a warrant. He never told me what I owed, year I owed or any info about me except my name, when I asked for a supervisor I was told none was there and hung up on. He never asked me for money or a credit card, but told me I had to pay what I owed. I can not get in touch with my accountant (because this is the weekend), but my accountant receives the same info from IRS that I receive. Is this for REAL? Don't people have anything better do?
