I got a call today from 415-662-8387 claiming tax fraud, they wanted my lawyers name. I couldn't make out what he was saying. This is a IRS scam. If they call you, ask them for their badge number and let him/her know you will first call the IRS directly to confirm that they are legitimate IRS employees. You'll see it's just another scam. Don't give them any personal information (NO SSN or any personal information
We received a call today from "the Criminal Division of the IRS." (The numerous staff, including a paralegal, had Indian accents!) We were told that we had until 5pm today to pay $9,000. If the money was not paid, criminal charges for tax fraud were going to be filed against us and we would be arrested tomorrow. (It gets better.) We were told to go to CVS and to buy a money voucher and to then call the "IRS" office back. To find out if this was a scam, we called the IRS at 1-800-829-1040. The IRS agent we spoke to told us that she had just gotten off the phone with another person who had received the same type of call.
I received a call today from an woman with an Indian accent who left me a message stating that I must not ignore this message and to return the call immediately giving me a reference code number to use for the IRS criminal tax fraud division. I called the number and they answered IRS and ask me for the reference code , she knew my name and told me if I didn't pay 10,000 a sheriff would come to arrest me in the morning, she also instructed me not to speak or ask any questions until she was finished talking , I could barely understand what she was saying. When she finished with her scripted schpeil I began questioning her and she abruptly hung up. I then called the IRS to inquire and they had no idea why or what and took my information and ask me to call back in the morning to report!These idiots must be held accountable for harassing and threatening people this is insanity!
I received the same call, with the same message, and conversation as the two above. The caller also instructed me not to speak - meanwhile I was so shocked at what she was saying, I really had nothing to say! I called the IRS and went over all this with them. This is a SCAM. The IRS is urging people to tell local police/authorities. These people don't back off. I have received numerous calls from the same person who knows I have reported her! The legal jargon they through at you may sound intimidating to some so be aware!
I am getting similar calls as the other commenters, though I haven't actually talked to them, just listened to the two voice mails they have left thus far. Both have been by the same man, I can't understand his name but it sounds like the last name is Cooper (yeah right based on his thick Indian accent). I have already reported them to the IRS. They aren't even asking for me, but for some other name that is no where close to mine.
Well, I've received a call from them on several occasions. Requesting that they speak with my daughter. The next time they call I will tell them to KISS MY A**. Thanks for the heads up.
