caller left message saying to return call about problem with your income tax. Called back and hung up twice. Number is calling from private residence on Nicasio Valley Road, in mtns outside San Francisco.
Reported to FTC. btw, IRS does not make phone calls to you, everything done by mail.
The problem is, they could care less about threats like that because they're overseas and know that law enforcement won't touch them. Scammers know that no one in their home countries care if they scam Americans. Just hang up without wasting your breath and block their numbers, although they're just get a new number and try again. For an elderly person, you might just want to change his phone number entirely as they pass around "sucker lists" of senior citizens.
Amazing! Same experience as above. Just posted so others will know this is still going on...from the same number...using the same names. Should be a way to shut this down. These guys must be successful with some of their calls and that is really unfortunate. I could see how honest naïve people might get frazzled when told that they are being investigated / litigated by the IRS/Government and would rush to do anything to protect their good name, without thinking. Perhaps everyone contacted by these criminal should file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission as Ron did. If anyone has a better idea please post.
My boyfriend just got the same call. I called h & r block about this and they said the irs wouldn't be contacting him on the phone said it was a scam. he was threaten with garnishment, being arrested and jailed. Was given a number from H & R block to contact IRS ourselves.
