I got this call. It's probably legit. Many states have laws about bank account becoming unclaimed property after certain period of inactivity (I think it's 3 years in California). However, if you are uncomfortable in providing any info, just tell the person that you will take care of it at the local branch. It's what I just did.
The call seems more legit to me because when I hang up on my mobile (I hang up anytime it takes more than 5 seconds to get a response after initial hello), they immediately call my work number. I suppose a fraudulent company can have both my numbers, but seems less likely to have them on hand and calling within 3 seconds on hanging up on the mobile seems indicated some kind of computerized system, which I expect Wells Fargo to have.
Having said all that, I still went to my local branch instead of giving info.
Voicemail left by Marlon with Wells Fargo Unclaimed Property Dept. Called from 415-778-6325 and left a different number for me to call back. I went to Wells Fargo official website and called the Customer Service number found there. This message left for me was legitimate as I had an old account that was inactive/dormant and the funds were about to be turned over to the state. If you get a call from this number, don't call back, just call Wells Fargo Customer Service directly.
I received a call from this number. The claim was they were calling from Wells Fargo Unclaimed Property Dept. requesting that I verify my name (which they had) and requesting additional personal information. I declined to provide any information at all and hung up on them. I immediately called Wells Fargo since I have several accounts with them and provided the phone number to see if it was a legitimate call. Wells Fargo advised that 415-778-XXXX is NOT one of their numbers and requested that I contact their FRAUD department immediately. Be warned. This is a scam.
