While I also find them annoying?? Each of you complaining at some point, went out there and looked for health insurance. You put your phone number out there...so that's why they are calling. Same thing happened to me. This is not unsolicited or in any way illegal..you gave them your telephone number. What I did do was say 'yes' to the recording that I wanted to speak to someone about health insurance (I looked for insurance LAST YEAR!!) when the employee came on the line, I made myself very clear that if they did not remove my number, I would file a complaint and they would be fined, since I now have asked them to stop calling. Haven't received a call since that day! However, the next best solution?? Simply don't answer the call!
Steven, You have to be careful of the number blocking apps these days...following is a copy of my review of almost everyone I can find.
Look at the "Permissions" this app wants from you. It wants you to give them permission to do whatever they want through your phone. They want among other things just as nasty….they want
· full network access
· view network connections
· control Near Field Communication (look that one up)
· modify your system settings
· create accounts and set passwords on your phone
· use any of your accounts on the device or accounts they might create in your name
Apps like this should be boycotted, and shown to be worse than the worst hackers on the web, with one difference...they want you to smile and give them permission. The best thing that might happen from installing this app, is you get tons of spam. The worst is you could subscribe to any group, whether they are political, terrorist, or pornographic. Or use of your accounts might be to buy things for someone else, and you would have agreed to all or any of this.
This should be criminal. Read before you install
Gary, big difference here. The OP is talking about a call blocking device for a land line, not a app for a cell phone..
What you list is normal for most any program (even on a computer) and also for that phone administrator (aka the owner). They do have to change settings for the program to work and they do need to be able to access out there for them to block and work properly as well as update when needed. Your paranoia is a bit over the line..
