Things to remember about loans offered by phone or e-mail: (Pay attention to item #4!)
Loans
1. No reputable lender will lend you money over the phone.
2. No reputable lender will lend you money by e-mail
3. On-line lenders are nothing more than conduits for another loan scam.
4. Advance fees for loans are almost always illegal.
5. If you want to borrow money, go to an established brick and mortar lender that has been around awhile.
6. If you receive a call from someone with an Indian accent either a. threatening you or b. offering you something, you know it’s a scam and you should hang up immediately.
7. These people are predators, the calls are not random, they have information that they have bought from various sources and know your financial history. If you have ever taken out a pay-day loan, they have all your information. They know who they are calling. They like to pick on women, single mothers, the elderly and sometimes members of the immigrant community. Also, those who might be in financial difficulty.
8. Report them, the scammers are usually located in India and Pakistan.
I just check my messages, and I recieved a very harrasing message from this guy, stating that he would "drag my credit through the mud". Unlucky for him, I have people that are well connected with the police and I will bring down this rude scam artist.
I called him and was told I would need to purchase 'insurance' - which is considered an upfront fee. I told him that asking for that is illegal and that the money needs to be in my possession for a total of 7 days before they can ask for any type of payment. He kept telling me it was not a 'fee' and then continued to harass me and tell me that once he was done with my information i wouldn't ever be able to get a loan anywhere. He kept telling me to 'go get a hobby' 'go get a boyfriend' and that i 'didnt know the law' when I've researched the information myself.
This is pulled EXACTLY from the website; 'Fees that aren't disclosed clearly or prominently. Scam lenders may say you’ve been approved for a loan, then call or email demanding a fee before you can get the money. Any up-front fee that the lender wants to collect before granting the loan is a cue to walk away, especially if you’re told it’s for “insurance,” “processing,” or just “paperwork.”
Legitimate lenders often charge application, appraisal, or credit report fees. The differences? They disclose their fees clearly and prominently; they take their fees from the amount you borrow; and the fees usually are paid to the lender or broker after the loan is approved.
And if a lender says they won’t check your credit history, but wants your personal information, like your Social Security number or bank account number? Go somewhere else. They may use your information to debit your bank account to pay a fee they’re hiding.'
i called this number knowing after reading all the complains above and i texted him/her why she/he was calling me and the person responded about my loan. I immediately responses i am not interested anymore. thanks for all the heads up
