Computer voice recorded call message saying "This is Officer John (last name unintelligible) and the moment you receive this message I need you to call us back immediately to our department number to 425-369-7187. I repeat the number is 425-369-7187 as it is a matter of urgency. I am looking forward to speak with you. Thank you."
This is the same script the Indian scammers have used. I guess they realize people have become savvy to anyone calling with an Indian accent.
Beware of these scammers! There are a lot out there with tax season among us and using different last names of an "Officer John".
I received the call too. There was a voice message that said there was an arrest warrant issued against my last name by the tax crime dept. of legal affairs with the U.S. Treasury. I was to call the number 425-369-7187 immediately and ask for detective John Causcanan (most likely spelled incorrectly) These losers have nothing better to do.
Yep, got that call yesterday on my cell phone. A couple of weeks ago I got a similar call from another number. Both were poorly done recordings. I did call the first number, and when the person said "IRS," I told him that the REAL IRS does not call, so I know they are scammers, and to take off my number, then hung up. The IRS takes enough of our money only to have the government waste it, so we don't need any more thieves like them.
I just hung up and am waiting for the Sheriff to arrive with my arrest warrant. I was told I needed to pay $2298.00 immediately for them to call of the Sheriff. If I didn't I'd spend 72 hours in jail with no bond.
Please be aware the IRS does not call about an audit. This is similar to the call I received last week from the Audit Department of the IRS - All Indian accents. Basically the same script.
Please take the time to report this to the Federal Trade Commission. I don't know if they will to anything about this scam, but I think if enough of us report them possibly they will track them down.
