Hello, I just received a message from an Officer David Wallace from the DEA demanding I contact him. Based on the information here it appears to be the same name used on multiple scams but a new number. Will someone please let me know if I should call him or if this is truly a scam?

It IS a scam. There is an article about it on this website:

FDA Warns of Extortion Phone Scam by Fake Agents
9 Jan 2011
Extortionists posing as FDA agents are targeting customers of online and over-the-phone pharmacies, demanding victims pay cash fines or else face law enforcement action, the FDA warned today.

The criminals call the victims -- who in most cases previously purchased drugs over the Internet or via "telepharmacies" -- and identify themselves as FDA special agents or other law enforcement officials. The criminals inform the victims that purchasing drugs over the Internet or the telephone is illegal, and that law enforcement action will be pursued unless a fine or fee ranging from $100 to $250,000 is paid.

The criminals always request the money be sent by wire transfer to a designated location, usually in the Dominican Republic. If victims refuse to send money, they are often threatened with a search of their property, arrest, deportation, physical harm and/or incarceration.

"Impersonating an FDA official is a violation of federal law," said Dara Corrigan, the FDA’s associate commissioner for regulatory affairs. “FDA special agents and other law enforcement officials are not authorized to impose or collect criminal fines. Only a court can take such action.”

Typically, these criminals use telephone numbers that change constantly and make it appear as though their calls originate in the United States.

The FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigations is pursuing multiple national and international criminal investigations. Arrests have been made and additional prosecutions are pending; however, the scheme is likely to continue.

The FDA encourages anyone who believes they have been a victim of this phone scam to contact the FDA's Office of Criminal Investigations.

I just got a call from a David Wallace claiming to be a DEA agent from 706-760-5597 which is in Appling , GA though he said he was in DC.  He said customs intercepted a package coming to me in the Dominican.  He said there was an arrest warrant out for me and they were coming to search my house.  He put me on hold and said since I had no record they could cancel the warrant for $2800.00 and the fine for dismissal of charges would be an additional $1559.00.  He said I had to go right away, get cash only and go to a Western Union money transfer office and call him while I was there so he could he could help me fill out the paperwork.  I called my local DEA office and they said it was a scam and told me to call my local PD and report this, who also said it was a scam and if the guy called back, which he did 6 times in about 10 mins to have him call the local PD officer I spoke to.  When I told this 'David Wallace' this he got very rude and basically hung up on me.  Thank goodness my husband had enough sense to look it up because I was petrified even though I had done nothing wrong, I thought someone was gonna show up on my doorstep and arrest me and search my house.  They are very convincing because they work on your fear.  I almost fell for it.  Who would even think to do something like this?  What garbage!

Lets put this to rest.  Its a scam pure and simple.  People, please disregard and ignore anyone calling and representing themselves as a dea (or any other type of federal or law enforcement agent).

YOU HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR.  This is completely fake and NOTHING will happen to you or your family, These jerks have absolutely no power over you whatsoever unless you let them by falling for their nonsense.

If you have the gumption, try and keep them on the line as long as possible.  Make-up any information they are requesting from you on the spot.  Keep them talking, pretend you are scared and maybe, you will be able to obtain mailing addresses, real phone or fax numbers, or any other information you can use to assist the REAL authorities in apprehending these fools.

If you're not in the mood for any of their games, remind them that impersonating a federal officer or agent is a felony and watch how quickly they will disappear!  Rest easy and think to yourself that this type of call is utter BS.  Take control and tell these guys where to go!

It is very important to file an FCC complaint anytime you receive calls like this.  If enough complaints are registered, eventually these calls may stop.

Below is a list of other (or perhaps the same) DEA scammers.  Read through and cross-post these numbers anywhere or anytime these jerks call with a new number.

I got a phone call from David Wallace also. This was yesterday This man threatened me with 25 years in prison, and search for illegal substance in my house. I picked up on him, which made him angry. He told me that his officers would be there in one hour. I told him I had to brush my teeth before they came......he hung up on me. There was an agent by the name of David Wallace but he passed away in 1994.
Where are these people located and how can they be stopped?
