They called me a month ago, and once again just dead air when I answered. I wanted to take up as much time of theirs as I could. Don't hang up on the robo-call, doing this costs them nothing. Make them talk to you. Make them take real time paying a person to go through their spiel. Only by keeping a live person on the line can you cut into their profit margins - that's why they robocall! Don't let it work for them! If everyone talked for 10-20 minutes to every telemarketer that called them (and didn't buy anything), we could wipe them out within a couple of months. If they are talking to you (a dead lead), they can't talk to a live lead. No sales means no profits. No profits means they can't afford to telemarket anymore.
That's why telemarketers tell you to hang up, or screen your calls if you aren't interested - it benefits them! Think out it!
Here's the scam robocall message they left on voice mail: "Be Done during this limited time period you may qualify for a tax credit that allows you to get coverage for less than a dollar per day. But you need to ask now to be first in line for the tax, credit and funeral and health care program. Please Press 1 now to connect with an agent, or press 2. If you've already received your discounted program. Thank you."
Blocked them in Google Voice and am reporting them as scammer/spammers all over.
I received a call at 12:40 p.m. on 1/23/15 from this number, with the last part of the spiel pretty much as quote by DaSalo above. Because they do not supply an opt-out (do-not-call-list) option, I pressed 1 to speak with someone to insist on being made do-not-call. As soon as I said, "Please put this number on your do-not-call list," this low-life disconnected. Upon trying to call back, the number was "busy" and, evidently, never becomes un-busy, no doubt through some electronic dodge they use to prevent irate call recipients from reaching them.
For probably two years now, both my land line and cell phone have been receiving increasing numbers of telemarketing and/or scam calls, mostly originating out-of-state. Those numbers have been on the national do-not-call registry for many years, renewed carefully as necessary. Now I receive as many of these maddening calls as I ever did back when there was no do-not-call registry. It often feels as if death by being flung into a huge nest of scorpions is not excessive for these slimes.
