Debt collectors have no power of arrest. On public prosecutors can present charges of a criminal act. This never happens unless there is some sort of local police investigation. Debt is a civil matter in any case. No crime's involved.
These debt scammers will tell you anything in order to get you to pay them something. And Indian accent is a dead giveaway of a scam. Ignore them.
Actually it is outright extortion. This is a serious crime. Follow the advice on reporting it. They call you again, tell 'em in no uncertain terms that this is extortion and that you are reporting it to American authorities. Don't let them talk over you, don't give them any information and certainly don't give them any money-- basically you have to tell these scammers to go to hell as loudly as you can. They make their money through intimidation. Got to let them know, if they call you, that you won't be intimidated. The Indian scammers like to target single women, single mothers, the elderly and members of the immigrant community.
Just received a call frim "Eric Wilson", very heavy Indian accent. I didn't answer but did call them back asking if they had any openings because I wanted to try and scam people just like they do. Long story short he hung up on me.
Maybe if we all called them like they call us it would put an end to it.
