They call saying they need to talk to me about an important legal matter and the y need to get in touch with me right away. I called back and they do not answer.
Got a call from some black guy from this number, 469-629-7762. He asked for me by name. He gave me his name and company name, but I don't recall. Anyway, he said there was a summons for me, which was a civil matter, that would be delivered to me tomorrow between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM by law enforcement officers. I asked a few questions, but he advised he could not open the summons and did not have any information. He told me that if I could not be home during that time, that I was to call 877-698-7187, give them the case number, and reschedule. It all had the feel of being legitimate, but I could think of nobody who would be taking me to court over a civil matter. After we hung up, I realized that this guy had not even verified my home address where the summons was supposed to be delivered. So I went online to check both numbers and, sure enough, the entire thing is a scam. I honestly do not know what they are looking for because I gave them no information at all. He had my number and my name. Beyond that, he did not appear to have anything. So, if they are looking for personal info, he did not ask me for anything. I called the first number back and nobody answered. The second number went to an answering machine for Sinclair & Associates, I think. But nobody answered the calls.

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.
I have been getting calls repeatedly from this number asking to deliver legal papers to the name of my ex-father-in-law or ex-brother-in-law. They could not tell me if it was for jr. or sr. Today, I asked the woman what kind of scam they were running and she said, "Ma'am, this is no scam. If we were running a scam we wouldn't be able to stay in business for so many years." I told her I found the number online as a scam and she told me that anyone can put whatever they want online. She was very rude, kept interrupting so I told her to stop talking and tried to tell her that I wanted no part of it then she told me to stop talking so I hung up. I cannot remember the company she said she was with.
