So they MAILED you proof of this debt, right? You didn't just pay some random caller who VERBALLY claimed you owed them, right? Because the only LEGAL notification of a debt (forgotten or otherwise) is via US Mail. If you didn't receive the mailed notification, you paid a scammer and have set yourself up to be scammed again.
It's all a scam. I was left a message about a case I have pending using my social security #. I have no cases.... nor do I owe money on anything. If you get a call saying they are a lawyer, don't fall for it.
Got a vociemail saying to call Ms. Brooke who was calling on behalf of an attorney for a case involving my brother. I do know we was not exactly the ebet at paying his bills but after reading this website decided to have a little fun. I called the number and a Ms. Brooks answered, ask me if I knew where my brother was and I asked her to spell the "law firm" she was with. She got "testy" and asked why I was asking so many questions and when I ripped into her she hung up. FYI for all you out there.
Odd, I had the same issue, but checked my credit reports and nothing is in collection. Sometimes these scanners get old closed paid off debts fro 10-20 years ago and coerce you into a scam.ALWAYS CHECK YOUR CREDIT REPORT!
