I answered a call from this number and it was an automated operator asking if I needed prayer. I do, so I pressed 1 as instructed. They asked for my name and gave just enough time for me to state my name. After that the operator stated that I would have 10 seconds to state why I needed prayer if I would like to. I said that I need prayer for "immediate and extended family problems". There was just enough time for that statement. After they said that they will pray for me and will call within 24 hrs to pray with me. It's only been a few moments since I hung up so I cannot report on the follow up call just yet. When it comes to prayer I will take all I can get lol. They did not ask for any personal information other than my name and a brief description of what I needed prayer for so I felt comfortable accepting this call. It's odd but like I said we need prayers so badly right now and I like to believe there are genuine Christians out there so here's hoping.
interesting, I just got the same call but from a different phone number, so it is definitely a scam. I also have a difficult problem I am dealing with right now and, being Catholic, had just prayed the Memorare to Our Lady asking for her intercession. So the timing and the fact that the call was from "St. Mary's" seemed almost a sign. Almost. Luckily, I did not just fall off the turnip truck yesterday. I did not take the bait. I was asked to select one of several numbers, but I selected no number and just let the call end. No prayer group is going to call and ask if you need prayers. The perpetrators are phishing for vulnerable or gullible or, perhaps, religious people who will naively trust "St. Mary's" or a religious group. Those who take the bait will probably get calls at a later date asking for a donation, for which they will need your credit or banking information . . . Beware. Oh, and I have heard of people calling these numbers back, knowing they are a scam, and they do it just out of curiosity. Don't do it.
I got the same call from 8289897698 which is local for me. I didn't give them any information but my question is are they only calling Catholics? And how did they know I was Catholic? Lucky guess? Id like to know how they got my #.
