I just received a phone call from this number 469 804 3658. Saying I was going to be arrested in two hours by the sheriff. This is from a payday loan back in 2010. The man was extremely rude and was trying to scare me into paying them. He said he was not personally going to collect the money but would call the State Of Arizona Victims and close out the case, if I would pay what I owed. These people have bought the debts or have learned of them and are trying to use the phone and intimadation to make you pay. This is extremely illegal. There is no case and they don't arrest you for debts in the USA.
Check fraud is a crime which is handled by the local prosecutor, if he or she decides to prosecute, but it rarely gets that far, most banks settle and that's the end of it. Debt collectors can't file charges for anything! Total scam. Only judges issue warrants and they are only issued to duly constituted law enforcement officers. Debt collectors can't get warrants or "process" them. Debt collectors have nothing to do with police or courts or warrants and have no powers of arrest.
Fraudulent or Zombie Debt Collectors—Things to Know
If you have received a call stating:
1. You have defrauded a financial institution
2. You owe an unpaid payday loan
3. You have a warrant due to an unpaid loan
5. You will receive a court summons
6. Authorities are coming to arrest you
7. Anything similar to above,
a. Do not give them any information or verify any information for them
b. Tell them you know they are a scam operating illegally and that you are filing a complaint with the appropriate authorities
* File a complaint with the FBI on their Internet Crime webpage http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx
* File a complaint with the Attorney General for the state you live in
The more information and complaints there are, the better the chance of getting these criminals to stop (or at least reduce the frequency). [abstracted from another site]
