I got a call last night 6/28/2008 about 8:15 PM. Message left on my answering machine, repeated three times. I don't have caller ID, so don't know the origin-number. I do have a Franklin Bank Visa debit card ... but the card is in my possession, not lost. The call can't be anything but bogus, any bank's security or customer service department should have a toll-free number. There's an 800-number on back of my card.
Also got the same call from the same Colorado number. I do have an account with Franklin, but not a debit card. I called the number, it says it's Franklin and immediately asks for the debit card number. I reported it to Franklin's fraud hotline.
I got the same thing, with a blocked caller ID. I first called information, who said the 479 Area Code is from Fort Smith, Arkansas. I got the fraud hotline from the concerned banks (there were 4, one in Detroit, one in south New Jersey, one in Franklin, Kentucky, and one south of Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas) and contacted them all. Left a message on all of them with my contact number.
We first received a call saying it was from Franklin Bank and that our Visa debit card had been suspended and to call 479-696-9701. The next day we received the same call (automated), except this time is was from "our" credit union (we don't belong to a credit union OR Franklin Bank) and to call the same number.
There was another call yesterday from a different "bank" and another one this morning at 5:00 a.m. from the same "Franklin Bank". I didn't even listen to the entire message. This is very annoying. I googled the number and apparently there are many people being phished with this garbage.
Same info as others: Bogus call from 'Franklin Bank, Security Dept' saying account has been suspended.
Why are we having to resort to trying to protect ourselves by looking up phone numbers on the net (like this site)? Shouldn't the FCC be the "cop" on something like this? Jeez, our guvmint at work!
