I received a call from this number today. I let it ring until the caller hung up and then I researched the number. When I found out it's a scam, I blocked the caller. LOVE that iPhone feature!
Called at 2pm on Thursday. Caller Id showed Bentonville Arkansas 479--802-4816. Male had very thick Indian accent and said he is from Microsoft in New Delhi and is calling to remove a program for me. I repeatedly told him I knew it was a scam, and he insisted it is not, and if I am not interested I can just hang up. I suggested he hang up and he said he could not...so I had fun and told him I had nothing better to do...how's the kids?, how's the wife?, how's the love life, etc. He finally hung up.
Called at 10 am on 2/11/16 named "Michael Smith", not hardly, and said my computer was sending off a signal to them at Windows that my Window 10 had a software issue. I told him I didn't have Windows 10, and he said all Windows contact them. I asked for a call back number and he gave it to me, which was from Los Angeles according to the caller ID, but in White Pages is in Bentonville, Ark. I then proceeded to return the call and got "William", also not likely, and he told me there had been a lot of reported hackers in my area and he wanted to make sure my Microsoft programs were ok. I told him i'd like to talk to Michael and he said he would return my call. I didn't answer the 3 call backs.
Just received a call from this number. My caller, Edwin also had a very heavy Indian accent stating he was from Microsoft and that he received a signal alerting Microsoft that my home computer was being hacked. Now, I am home working from my business laptop and not my home computer. I knew this was a hoax and I asked him to give me his number and I will call him back later. I hope no one is falling for this. SMH
I got a call from "no name / no number (private call)" but, I answered it b/c I was waiting for another call and was worried the other caller might be an unlisted number.
I said "Hello" a couple of times and then FINALLY the line rang and a guy with a heavy accent came on and told me he was with technical support (don't recall if he said Microsoft at that time). He asked me if I had windows. I played along a bit and said "yes I could see two right now" (meaning the windows in in my room). I then waited for him to explain he meant Microsoft Windows and I said "ohhh yes I have windows".
After asking a few more times he asked if I was in front of my computer and I said "yes I am but it's turned off does that matter?" which didn't seem to phase him and he asked me to press the 'windows key' so I said I had and asked again if having the machine turned off mattered. He asked me to turn the machine on and I said I was (of course it was already on)... I explained it might take a while to boot because I had a lot of viruses and spyware on it, but that I wasn't worried because people had called me up to help me with all of that.
EVENTUALLY... I got tired of messing with the guy. I finally admitted that I was an internet developer and had been one since the 1990s and that I suspected that this was a scheme or phishing expedition. He assured me it was not. I told him that I was continuing to talk to him because I felt that I was saving some other victim from taking his call. He *continued* to stay on the line.
I then pointed out he was calling from an unlisted number and showing up as a private caller and that this made it quite hard for me to believe him.
I said I had problems with my phone and that I needed a number to call back in case we were disconnected and after a LONG time of haggling he gave me this number (479-802-4816). I said "Thanks! I'll call you right back!" then hung up and came over here to post this message.
This is a scammed for sure! I say this because I did get burnt. He said he was from microsoft but also with the comport support company I use as well. He knew enough about my computer and who I gave dealt with so I believed what I was being told. But figured it out to late. Be very leary of this phone number.
