Rented a U-Haul truck and returned with clear receipt. A year later we received phone calls claiming we owed money for damages - what damages?!. We contacted a lawyer who said not to respond to such calls. Now almost five years after the fact, we get another call from these clowns. My advice is do not respond to these intimidation tactics.

My take on the mattter is someone from U-Haul damaged the truck and reported it as damages caused by the last customer.
