Idiots calling about warranty on a vehicle... push 1 for more info or push 2 to get your name off a list... DO NOT PUSH ANY BUTTONS. THIS IS A SCAM. If you push a button, they will know there is a real human there, and keep calling you. Hang up and report it. ALso, make sure you are on the National Do Not Call List - www.donotcall.gov
How are they going to access your information if you press a button on your phone? It's not like opening a suspicious email where they can sometimes put a virus on your computer and access information. All they will know is that you answered and then pressed 2.
I agree it is very annoying - on 2 phone lines we get several of these calls a day. We need to pressure the CRTC about allowing recorded messages to harass us over the phone. We pay for our phone lines and we did not give permission to annoying/unethical companies to use it as a free advertising medium. We have a right not to be harassed - do contact the CRTC. If they get enough complaints they may do something - even block certain numbers from outside our country that known to be delivering these scams.
I just got a call too. Luckily for me I'd heard about this scam on the radio so i did know about it. I called the RCMP after I hung up and they informed me to call "PhoneBusters" at 1-888-495-8501. I'm not sure if this will do anything productive, but I guess its better than doing nothing.
