Received call from his number on my cell phone. After many questions of verification she identified herself as a collection agency for Verizon. She is trying to collect a so called debt owed since 2004.
I told her to have Verizon call me but its not her procedure. Best thing, do not answer. Must have used a personal phone.

So I haven't received a call from this number, but my ex-husband has for about 3 weeks now and all they will say is they need to speak to me and they asked him for my contact info. He asked who it was and they refused to give him any info except they were calling about "personal business" and they just wanted to get my and he refused.

They call family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them and they can scare that person into paying their extortion money.

Thus far none of that conduct was illegal. Debt collectors running skip trace calls have a duty to honor the privacy of alleged debtors. Any discussion with your Ex which veered from how to locate you could get you cheesed enough to sue. If you found later that the agency had your current number the whole time and decided to hassle other people first, that would be a different story. But a collector engaging in that thug tactic would probably have hassled parents and relatives and/or neighbors, and then call you sooner than three weeks out.
