I got 5 calls from this caller within 2 hours. Finally answered - the recording had my name as it is on my Wells Fargo account. Next a person started talking who said my account was past due which it is NOT. He rattled off four digits identifying the account but said them so fast and his accent was so heavy I had a hard time understanding what he was saying, but I think it was an old account that has since been closed. He said my last payment was August 20 which might actually be true so he had me going along with the scam for a few minutes. When I told him my account was up to date, he wanted to know when I made my last payment so I could avoid being 30 days past due - I hung up. If payments are overdo WF does not call you - they charge you a past-due fee on your next statement like all credit card companies do. The person calling had a very heavy accent - possibly from the India.

Received a call from 503-207-2810.  Caller id says 623-040836....huh?  If you have caller id and a phone number is unfamiliar, don't answer.  If it is important, they can leave a message.  Never talk with a debt collector.  One mistake can open their legal avenue to pursue you.  Let them call.  If you don't answer, they waste time and money.  These debt collectors can only earn money when they actually reach someone and shake them down.  Every unanswered call they make is a VICTORY for all consumers.

Received 3 calls between 5 PM & 6 PM within 1 hour on our business line.  I, too, never answer when it is apparent it must be a scammer.  I certainly wish businesses could use the do not call registry!!!  We get between 10-15 telemarketing calls every day.

Calling child's phone number. Ridiculous. We don't have Wells Fargo. Shameful tactics.

For a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. For tracfone & straight talk:

For text messages: forwarding any text message spam you get to the short code  “7726,” which spells “spam” on most phones, to alert your network operator to the abuse. ATT won't accept 7726 But they will accept BLOCK and return a message that the web site is blocked. forward the texts to 7726 or BLOCK, depending on your phone carrier.
