I've been getting calls from this number from a woman with an Indian accent, asking to speak with "the owner of the business." On subsequent calls she's also occasionally asks for me by name "May I speak with Steven G----." She purports to be offering some cash business financing. She's mentioned the name of the company but I can't remember. It's a name that suggests they provide capital in the form of loans to businesses.
I always have her hold on ("Let me see if he's available, can you please hold? He's on the other line but I think he's about to get off."), put my phone on mute, and let it sit there until she hangs up a couple minutes later. I've done it to her five of six times, and she keeps calling back like a clingy ex-girlfriend. She'll eventually get the hint.
Word of advice: Never hang up on telemarketers. When you cut it short and hang up, you are doing them a favor. Instead, take up as much of their time as you can without taking up too much of yours. Telemarketers rely on non-interested people hanging up on them or cutting it short so they can move on to the next call. Their conversion rate is way too low to spend any more than 20 seconds with people who are not going to convert. So if everyone would just keep on the line for at least a minute or two, the bottom would fall out of their business model.
They've been harassing me with 20 or more calls per day on my cell phone. I blocked them but that doesn't help much since it still rings at least once on my phone and they leave blank voicemails. So I called my service provider, Verizon and they were able to block the number at their facility. Presto, no more problem!
If they are bothering you, too, I suggest calling your service provider to see if they can do the same.
Bounced call back to caller and got a female who wanted to talk to Anthony. I asked what the call was about and she said a TAX DEBT. She gave me the last name of Anthony, but that name is not part of this office. I told her that she had called an off site federal office, ( I did not disclose which one) and I asked her what agency she represented and she said "I must have the wrong number." and ended the call. I bounced the call again and got an answering machine that played music then terminated the call.
It is believed that this is an illegal operation that has a auto-dial system that calls numbers and presents themselves as a variety of services, all of which are fake.
Recommend: Get as much information as you can, including the name of the caller, their location, the purpose of the call and the organization they represent and turn that information over to the your state authority or the Federal Consumer protection agency in your area.
Note to A. PLAINTIFF, you have posted an add on this site and not a valid statement. Note to ELI, your cell phone company has the capability of stopping calls from getting to your phone, so the single ring will not occur. Recommend that you contact your carrier and give the phone number of the caller. ALSO, if you feel that your are receiving harassing or threatening phone calls, you can contact your local law enforcement authorities and they should open a case for investigation. Electronic Stalking is a crime.
