I received the same call today from a Vernon Wells on my job. Left a message and said I needed to call him back immediately. Didn't say what it was in regards to.
Some man called my mother saying he is urgently looking for me, that he has a summons for me for check fraud? Umm I don't even have a checking account so not sure what this is about and lives 2000 miles away from me seems a bit fishy. Looked up phone number and its a land line not a business. Afraid to call back not sure what to do??
He's a fraud. Tell him you know that.
Process servers do NOT call ahead of time. EVER! He's a fraudulent and/or bogus debt collector. He's using a very old tactic in an attempt to intimidate you. Don't fall for it. DEMAND a notice of validation be mailed to you. NOT an e-mail or fax. As per federal regulations under the FDCPA. He'll start blustering & you'll hear his blood pressure rising. At this point he has proven himself to be nothing more than a bottom feeding scammer. Hang up. Ignore his calls or get a call blocker.
Research & know your rights as a consumer under the FDCPA. It's easy. Just Google it.
Be Safe. Be Aware.

I just got the same call. They they are threatening me with court costs, lawyer fees, retainer fees and prosecution. They say they have several charges against me. What should I do? They even called my daugher and scared her to death. They say they will serve the papers to my work or home.. Help!!!!
I got the same call he says he works for UCM Services and is working for Bank One, I googled Bank one and that is part of Chase Bank, I had an account at Chase but that was a very long time ago and I never had checks even on the account. I don't want to ignore something that is serious but I have no idea what it could really be!
