He said his name was Ron Bates. He was asked to call regarding an "issue I have in Plainville MA" gave the number and hung up. Did not sount friendly. He did not say why, or any other issue.
they first appeared on my credit report which i received an alert. I called and got some simple info so i could further research this. When i received a call from "Ron Bates" who did not like the answer I did not want to do anything at this time with this debt. He promptly hung up on me. After finding the company on the web. Capital Recovery Systems 249 South Street, Plainville, MA 02762-1507 (508) 643-1400, To my disbelief, Ron Bates is actually employed there. I then made a second call to request a copy of the information and then I would contact him from there. He called me a "liar", told me I was never going to pay the debt. I should not waste an agents time like that, they are busy. ( to busy to do his job apparently, isn't that resolving my debt?) and he hung up again. I then called a third time to confirm that he was sending this ( it is on my credit report and needs to be dealt with). Ron then told me " oh I will get the paper work right to you, if you had not called back a third time he would have let me go on not paying. Now he on my case... Sounded a lot like a threat to me!!!! They are SCUM, not how you treat people
I spoke to Ron Bates at 508.533.1911 today. He informed me of a bill that had been turned over for collection. He provided all the information I needed: the amount owed, the name of the company, his name, employer and direct number. I said I'd call him back after I verified the information. He did pressure me to commit to a specific time to call back. I hung up on him and called to confirm the information he'd given me from the company who retained his services.
I accidentally dialed his number 30 seconds later. We both laughed over my mistake. I then called the company who had the account in question. Afterwards I called Ron back. We worked out a monthly payment plan.
Debt collectors are people, too, but with a tough job. It's as easy to be defensive as it is to be polite for both parties. Ron was a nice, helpful guy. He treated me with respect. I did the same.
And now it's one less thing to procrastinate or feel guilty over.
