On 4/4 at 4:51pm EST I received a call from 508-598-0917 (Framingham, MA). When I picked up, there was silence on the other end and it hung up. This isn't the first time. Is there any way to block this number? It's getting very annoying.
Unwanted call to a private cell that is unable to block numbers. :-( Best I can do is label it "Spam" if it calls again - which they almost never do, so blocking is a waste of time anyway. Suspected an "energy" scam call; thanks to those who braved the call to confirm that!
Shut off my answering machine? I will NOT live that way. I have a machine as a tool to make MY life easier. It is important that ppl reach us and there are many to whom we do not wish to give our private cell numbers. We run a small business out of our home. This is an important part of our business.
This advise is a veiled 'blame the victim' statement. It's like saying if you don't want to get injured in a car accident, stay completely off the roads - just stay in your house, a self-imposed prison. Or, if your don't want to get robbed, don't walk around in public. Or I guess if women don't want to be sexually assaulted they should wear a chastity belt?
The problem is the CRIMINALS who don't obey the laws. The solution is laws with more 'teeth' to them, better enforcement of those laws and even our existing laws, and an international effort to shut down the sources of these calls including overseas call centers and tracing/tracking of lone wolf spammers. And most importantly, we need harsh fines and IMPRISONMENT of the owners of these call centers - and the Executives of AMERICAN corporations who set them up, hired them, and encouraged them in the first place.
